Indian cricket team’s Test captain Shubman Gill has been in the headlines for the last few months.
Shubman Gill may be out of the upcoming Duleep Trophy, which starts in Bengaluru in a few days, as the Indian captain is reportedly unwell. He was appointed captain of the North Zone team.

Shubman is now out of the entire season, and will directly join the Indian team for Asia Cup 2025, where he is also the vice-captain of the 15-member squad, which has Suryakumar Yadav as the captain.
Now in Gill’s absence, Haryana’s star batsman Ankit Kumar will be seen captaining North Zone. The team also includes Indian stars like Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Anshul Kamboj. Out of these, Arshdeep and Rana, both will join the national team after the first match of the season against East Zone, as both have been included in India’s Asia Cup squad.

According to Cricbuzz, Gill has been advised to rest for the time being and he is resting at his residence in Chandigarh. Sources close to the matter have now confirmed that Gill will be out of the entire domestic tournament. However, no official announcement has been made by the zonal selectors or any member of the national committee regarding Gill’s absence from the tournament yet.

Talking about the Duleep Trophy schedule, North Zone will play their first quarter-final against East Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground in Bengaluru. If they win this match, they will face a strong South Zone in the first semi-final at the same ground, winning which they will make it to the five-day final.
