Women ODI WC 2025: According to sources, the BCCI may change the venue of those matches of the Women’s World Cup which were initially to be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The decision could be taken in the wake of the stampede incident that took place a day after the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team celebrated their maiden IPL title win.

Women ODI WC 2025: Decision to be taken within a week

Women ODI WC 2025: According to sources, the final decision on the venue could come by this week. According to ESPN Cricinfo, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium is in danger of losing matches after the BCCI crossed the August 10 deadline to seek police permission to host the games. If Bengaluru is ruled out, the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram has been discussed as a possible alternative.

Women ODI WC 2025: As per the current schedule, Bengaluru is scheduled to host the tournament opener between India and Sri Lanka on September 30, England vs South Africa on October 3, India vs Bangladesh on October 26, the second semi-final on October 30 and possibly the final on November 2. The tournament will begin on September 30.

Plan to shift to another venue

Women ODI WC 2025: The Greenfield stadium is already scheduled to host the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) from August 21 to September 7. Sources in the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) said they have chalked out a plan to shift the KCL to another venue if the World Cup matches are shifted there.

What the rules say

As per ICC rules, the host venues have to be handed over to the organisers at least a month before the tournament begins. This means the BCCI and ICC will have to take a decision within a week, especially since Thiruvananthapuram is also proposed to host World Cup warm-up matches on September 25 and 27.

Matches were proposed to be held without spectators

The Police Commissioner’s Office has confirmed that the KSCA had not received the required permission for the Chinnaswamy Stadium till Monday, the day the ICC began the 50-day countdown to the tournament in Mumbai. Due to lack of police permission, the KSCA is currently conducting the Maharaja Trophy T20 tournament in Mysore, even though it had proposed to conduct the matches without spectators.

Exploring the possibility of conducting matches with limited spectator capacity

As a last option, the KSCA is exploring the possibility of conducting World Cup matches with limited spectator capacity. It is not clear whether the BCCI will accept the proposal, especially since the stadium is the designated venue for the final if Pakistan does not qualify. The KSCA’s troubles began on June 4, when a stampede near the stadium during RCB’s IPL 2025 victory parade left 11 people dead and over 50 injured.
