Aakash Chopra believes that Rohit and Virat should have left ODI cricket and kept playing Tests, let us tell you about this news in detail

Aakash Chopra: Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that Rohit and Virat should have left ODI cricket and kept playing Tests. He said that the decision taken by both of them to leave T20 and Tests was a very opposite decision. Chopra emphasized that when India played very few ODIs in a year before winning the 2025 Champions Trophy.

On his YouTube channel, he said that both of them retired from the wrong format. If they had continued playing Test cricket and retired from ODIs, perhaps the situation would have been better today. For example, India played only 6 ODIs in the 12 months before the Champions Trophy, which is very little as preparation.

Aakash Chopra: Long gap affects the rhythm of the players

Chopra further said that playing in such a long gap affects the rhythm of the players. According to him, even if a player plays only 6 Test matches in a year, it is a game of about 30 days, but if the same player is playing 6 ODIs in a year, then he is able to show his talent on the field for only 6 days. Usually, ODI matches are held 100 days after IPL, which means that the player stays away from the game and practice.

He also said that a 3-match series is over in a week, then the next series is held after several months. In such a big gap, players do not even play domestic cricket, so if they kept playing Tests and left ODIs, continuity would have been maintained.

He is of the opinion that it is difficult to perform well after a long break. Playing IPL continuously for two months in a year, where one gets to play more than 14 innings, and then not stepping on the international field for several months, after that playing only 2-3 international matches, this whole process is difficult in terms of preparation.

At present, India’s next ODI match will be on the Australia tour, and after this both these legends will be seen playing on the field in IPL.
