South Africa beat Australia in semifinal of WCL 2025: South Africa Champions defeated Australia Champions by just 1 run in the second semi-final match of the World Championship of Legends 2025. Opener JJ Smuts and wicketkeeper-batsman Morne van Wyk scored brilliant half-centuries.

Australia’s Peter Siddle was the most successful bowler. He managed to take 4 wickets for 30 runs in his four-over spell. Wayne Parnell was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’. With this thrilling win, South Africa will now face Pakistan in the final. The final match will be played in Birmingham on 2 August.
Morne van Wyk’s explosive innings
After winning the toss in Birmingham, South Africa decided to bat first. Their start was not good and captain AB de Villiers returned to the pavilion on a score of just 13 runs. Morne van Wyk and opener Smuts handled the innings and added 111 runs for the third wicket. Van Wyk scored a brilliant 76 runs in 35 balls which included 7 fours and 5 sixes.

South Africa scored 186 runs losing eight wickets in 20 overs. Siddle proved to be the most successful bowler for Australia. He took four wickets. Apart from him, Brett Lee and Daniel Christian got one wicket each. Archie Short took two wickets.
Daniel Christian’s efforts went in vain
Chasing the target of 187 runs, Australia could only score 185 runs at the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. As a result, it had to face defeat by just one run in this exciting match. Daniel Christian, who came to bat at number five, tried his best to make his team win but he too was not successful. He played an unbeaten innings of 49 runs in 29 balls.
Apart from him, opener Chris Lynn contributed 35 runs in 20 balls, while D’Arcy Short contributed 33 runs in 29 balls. On the other hand, Wayne Parnell and Hardus Viljoen took two wickets each from South Africa, while Imran Tahir and Dwaine Olivier got one wicket each. Parnell was chosen as the ‘Player of the Match’ for his match-winning performance in the last overs.

South Africa Champions will now face Pakistan in the final. The final match of this tournament will be played in Birmingham on 2 August 2025.
