Farokh Engineer and Clive Loyd are set to have stands name: Former Indian wicketkeeper Farooq Engineer and West Indies great Clive Lloyd will be honoured during the fourth Test match to be played between India and England. Both these players will be honoured by their former county club Lancashire.

Farooq Engineer: The stand at Old Trafford Stadium is to be named after Farooq and Clive. 87-year-old Engineer has played for Lancashire for almost a decade. Talking about former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd, he has been associated with this club for two decades. The contribution of both these players to the club is important.

Farooq Engineer: Sources said while talking to PTI that the naming ceremony of the stand could be held on the first day of the fourth Test starting on July 23.

Farokh Engineer’s Lancashire career

Engineer has played 175 matches for Lancashire between 1968 and 1976. During this period, he scored 5942 runs and took 429 catches. Talking about wicketkeeping, he has 35 stumpings to his name. Mumbai-born Engineer made his debut for county club Lancashire when the club had not been able to win any major title for more than 15 years.

He helped the club win the Gillette Cup four times between 1970 and 1975. Let us tell you that Farooq Engineer has played 46 Test matches for India. He has scored a total of 2611 runs at an average of 31.08. While playing for India, he took 66 catches and also made 16 stumpings.

Engineer and Lloyd will become immortal in history

When India plays the fourth Test on 23 July, Engineer along with Clive Lloyd will become immortal in the history of Lancashire. It is worth noting that Engineer has played most of his cricket at the Brabourne Stadium but there is no stand named after him there. A few years ago, Engineer had talked on the club’s website. He said,

It was an incredible time. Old Trafford was a great place. People came from far and wide to watch us play. From the dressing room at Old Trafford we could see Warwick Road railway station. Trains full of people would arrive before the match and people would disembark. Their conversations, sounds of joy and laughter could be clearly heard.

Not only this, Engineer also remembered the letters sent by fans in his golden days. Continuing his talk, he said,

It was very special. Our lockers would be filled with autograph requests and party invitations. There was talk all over England about that great team, which included names like Clive Lloyd, Harry Pilling, Peter Lever and Ken Shuttleworth.

After retirement, Engineer made Manchester his home. He still lives there.
