Wriddhiman Saha in Race of Bengal Team Coach: Former Indian team wicketkeeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha announced his retirement from competitive cricket in January this year. Within 6 months of retirement, Saha is preparing to start his second innings as a coach. In fact, the Cricket Association of Bengal has shown interest in appointing him as the head coach of the Under-23 state team.

Former CSK player Saha, 40, retired from first class cricket after the Bengal team’s journey ended in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. Now Saha may return to the team again, but not as a player but as a coach. According to media reports, former Bengal captain Laxmi Ratan Shukla will continue to be the head coach of the senior team, while former off-spinner Sourashis Lahiri will coach the Under-19 team.

A senior CAB source told PTI on the condition of anonymity that senior CAB officials will take a final decision on all the candidates for various teams by next week. Obviously, Wriddhi (Wriddhiman Saha) has been discussed about this and the final decision will be taken next week. Apart from Sourav Ganguly and Pankaj Roy, he is the biggest name from Bengal who has played 40 Test matches.’

The source further said, ‘His experience of playing top level cricket for such a long time will be extremely beneficial for the next generation of Bengal cricket. Saha is already running a chain of coaching centers and he has been an active and dedicated coach for juniors. He has a passion for coaching. Hopefully he will be ready for it.’

A look at Wriddhiman Saha’s international career

40-year-old Saha played 40 Tests and 9 ODIs in his international career. In Tests, he scored 1353 runs at an average of over 29, which includes 3 centuries and 6 half-centuries. Saha has scored only 41 runs in ODIs. This player’s statistics in domestic cricket have been excellent. He has scored more than 7000 runs in First Class and List A cricket combined.
