In the last overs, Joe Root was joined by captain Ben Stokes and both of them made an unbeaten half-century partnership and did not let India get the fifth success. Despite this, the England camp will be worried, as Stokes’ fitness has again come under question. However, England vice-captain Ollie Pope hoped that Stokes’ injury was not serious.
After the first day’s play, Ben Stokes, who remained unbeaten on 39 runs, looked uncomfortable before stumps. He was given treatment on the field and he limped between the wickets. He refused to take a second run in the last over of the day, due to which Joe Root had to return unbeaten on 99 without completing his century.

After the first day’s play of the Lord’s Test, Ollie Pope, who came to the press conference, talked about Ben Stokes’ injury. He said,
“Hopefully he will be able to do something magical and make a strong comeback. I have not seen him since then, so hopefully nothing too serious. But it is clear that we have a big Test and two big matches (at Old Trafford and The Oval) coming up in the next four days, so it is important to try to manage Stokes.”
