Former veteran Indian fielder Mohammad Kaif explained the technical reason for Jaiswal’s poor fielding. He said in a video on X, “Why is Yashasvi Jaiswal dropping so many catches? In England, practice is done with the Duke ball, and in cold weather, players tie a bandage on their fingers to avoid injury. This stiffens the fingers and stops their free movement. The bandage acts like a sponge, causing the ball to bounce out after hitting it. Without the bandage, the natural connection with the ball remains, and catching the catch is easy.”
Dropping catches is a costly mistake
The catches dropped by Jaiswal gave England batsmen the opportunity to play long innings, which resulted in India’s defeat. It is clear from Kaif’s advice and analysis that through technical improvement and proper practice, Indian fielders can overcome their shortcomings.
