The New Zealand Cricket Board was soon going to announce the central contract of the women’s team, and just before this announcement, Devine decided to retire from ODIs. This means that her name will no longer be included in the central contract for ODIs, and she will only have a contract for the T20 format.
Brilliant all-rounder’s career
Sophie Devine is counted among the best all-rounders in the world. She made her ODI debut in 2006 at the age of just 17. She is New Zealand’s fourth most successful batsman in terms of runs scored.
Opportunity to create a new record in the World Cup
In the upcoming ODI World Cup, Sophie Devine will have the opportunity to reach the third position in the list of highest run-scorers for New Zealand. She needs only 54 runs to overtake Debbie Hockley. Devine has scored 3990 runs in ODIs so far. She is the second New Zealand woman batsman to score 8 centuries in ODIs, while Suzie Bates is at the top with 13 centuries.
Excellent performance in bowling too
Devine’s performance in bowling has also been excellent. She has taken 107 wickets in 152 ODIs, which makes her New Zealand’s second most successful bowler. In this case, she is second after Lee Tahuhu. These are the only two bowlers to take 100 or more wickets in ODIs for New Zealand.

Now all eyes will be on the upcoming ODI World Cup, where Sophie Devine’s batting, bowling and captaincy will be tested. It will be interesting to see how she performs in this tournament and what wonders the New Zealand team shows under her leadership.
