“What I liked about Bumrah was that he was quite clear; he knew what he had to do before the series,” said Ajinkya Rahane.
Ajinkya Rahane has praised Jasprit Bumrah for telling the team management in advance how many matches he would be able to play in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Rahane said that this is not an easy thing to accept in the country, as the selectors often drop such players from the team.

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir had said before the England series that Bumrah would play only three of the five Test matches. The charismatic fast bowler was seen only in the first, third and fourth Tests. Bumrah faced criticism from a section of fans for not playing the fifth Test match, which India needed to win to level the series. However, many experts have supported the 31-year-old.

Out-of-form Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane praised Bumrah for giving clear information about his availability to captain Shubman Gill and the management in advance. Rahane praised Bumrah’s courage and said that many players would have been dropped from the team for giving the same message to the team.
“What I liked about Bumrah was that he was quite clear; he knew what he had to do before the series. He said, ‘I will play the first match, not the second, and then I will play the third.’ That is a huge clarity for a captain. It is always difficult to talk to a captain with such clarity. As a player, when you are playing for India, it is really difficult. It often happens that a player tells you such things and he is dropped from the team. It shows that he has the courage to tell the captain and the management clearly,” Rahane said on his YouTube channel.
“It also shows that he puts the team ahead of himself. Sometimes it is not easy to do so while playing for India. As a player, when you represent India, it is not easy. Sometimes players give the same message to the team, and then they are dropped from the team,” he added.
