Harbhajan Singh suggests split coaching for Team India: The Indian cricket team currently has different captains. While Rohit Sharma’s captaincy remains in ODIs. At the same time, Shubman Gill has been given the command in Tests, while Suryakumar Yadav is the captain in T20. However, Gautam Gambhir is taking the responsibility of coaching Team India in all three formats. Gambhir’s tenure has been mixed so far. In such a situation, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has suggested split coaching for the Indian team.

Gautam Gambhir was made the head coach of the Indian team last year. Gambhir was brought into this role after Rahul Dravid. Under his coaching, Team India’s performance in red ball cricket has not been anything special. During this time, India had to be clean swept in the three-match Test series at the hands of New Zealand at their home. At the same time, India had to face disappointment on the Australia tour as well. However, in white ball cricket, Gambhir helped Team India win the Champions Trophy title under his coaching.
Harbhajan Singh explains the benefits of split coaching
In an exclusive interview with India Today, Harbhajan Singh suggested that there is nothing wrong in using different coaches in red-ball and white-ball cricket as the players and teams are different. The former spinner said that this option will reduce the workload for everyone, including the coaches.
Harbhajan said,
“I think if it can be implemented, then there is nothing wrong in it. You have different teams and formats for different players. If we can do it, then it is a good option. It will reduce the workload for everyone, including the coaches. So if it can be done, then it is not a bad option. Because your coach also needs time to prepare for a series. Like five Tests against Australia, then in England, then somewhere else. So the coach can prepare and determine how his team should be. The same applies to the white-ball coach as well. He will also need time to prepare.”

The veteran off-spinner further said,
“A coach also has a family and responsibilities. In such a situation, if you make a coach do more work, then it is not easy to travel continuously with the family. So according to me the option of split coaching is good.”
