Ravindra Jadeja: ‘He cannot be your frontline spinner in England’- Who gave such a statement about Ravindra Jadeja

Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja could not do anything special in the Leeds Test match.

Former Team India head coach Greg Chappell has raised questions on the inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja as the only spinner in the playing XI on the England tour. He believes that Ravindra is not a frontline spinner and should not be selected as the only spinner.

India lost the first Test played at Headingley in Leeds by five wickets. In this match, Ravindra took only one wicket in bowling, while with the bat also he could score only 36 runs in both his innings.

Lack of being able to take advantage of the pitch

The Headingley pitch had some help for the spinners on the fifth day, but Ravindra could not take advantage of it. England easily achieved the huge target of 371 runs. After this performance, questions are being raised on both Ravindra ‘s bowling and batting. His recent form has also been a matter of concern, as he has not been able to score more than 30 runs in the last six innings.

Chappell’s suggestion: Make Jadeja the second spinner

Greg Chappell believes that the Indian team should include Jadeja only as the second spinner and not the only spin option for more balance. Chappell’s statement comes in view of Jadeja’s recent performance, in which both his batting and bowling showed a lack.

Jadeja’s return and challenges

Ravindra was dropped from the playing XI in the first Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Series, where Washington Sundar was given a chance in Perth and Ravichandran Ashwin in the second Test. However, Ravindra made a comeback and cemented his place with an important half-century. Nevertheless, runs did not come off his bat in the next two matches, raising questions about his form.
