Jasprit Bumrah has taken three wickets in the Leeds Test match
Indian batsmen dominated on the first day of the first Test match between India and England, which started on 20 June 2025 at Headingley, Leeds. Yashasvi Jaiswal played a brilliant innings of 101 runs, while captain Shubman Gill scored 127 runs. Vice-captain Rishabh Pant played an unbeaten innings of 65 runs, helping India end the day with 359 runs for 3 wickets. Jaiswal and KL Rahul added 91 runs for the first wicket, but Rahul was dismissed after scoring 42 runs. Debutant Sai Sudarshan returned to the pavilion without opening the account.

Jasprit Bumrah: Second day’s play
On the second day, India started their innings at 359 runs for 3 wickets. Shubman Gill played a brilliant innings of 147 and Rishabh Pant 134 runs. At one point India’s score was 430/3, but after Gill was out, there was a flurry of wickets, and the whole team was bowled out for 471 runs. Captain Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue took four wickets each for England.
England started batting in response and scored 209 runs for the loss of 3 wickets by the end of the day’s play. Ollie Pope scored an unbeaten century, while Ben Duckett contributed 62 runs. Both shared a partnership of 122 runs. India is still ahead by 262 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling
Jasprit Bumrah was the leader of the Indian bowling, taking three wickets of England. However, his no-ball disappointed the Indian fans. In the last over of the day, Bumrah trapped Harry Brook in the trap of his bouncer. Mohammad Siraj took a brilliant catch at short mid-wicket, but Brook got a reprieve due to a front foot no-ball. Bumrah bowled three no-balls in this over and four no-balls in total in 13 overs.
Historical comparison
This no-ball from Bumrah reminded us of the 2017 Champions Trophy final, when his no-ball gave a reprieve to Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman. Zaman took advantage of that opportunity and scored a century and Pakistan defeated India. Indian fans hope that Brook will not be able to take much advantage of this reprieve.
