India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah spoke openly about his relationship with new Indian Test captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir. In an interview to Sky Sports, Jasprit Bumrah revealed that he had turned down the BCCI’s offer to become the full-time Test captain, after which the responsibility was handed over to Shubman Gill.

Jasprit Bumrah’s relationship with Gill
Jasprit Bumrah said that he has a very good relationship with Shubman Gill and is always ready to give suggestions to the captain. However, he stressed that captains need their freedom. Bumrah said in a conversation with Dinesh Karthik, “In my experience, the player should be given freedom and support when needed. I am available for Gill all the time, in any role. I don’t interfere much, but if I see something, I secretly give advice. I want Gill to be free with his thinking. He is young and energetic, and he has his own thought process, which should remain the same.”
Gambhir’s coaching style
Bumrah described Gautam Gambhir’s coaching style as personal. He said that Gambhir discusses each player individually instead of talking in a group. Bumrah said, “Gambhir takes a very personal approach. He talks to the player in private where he feels intervention is necessary. Indian cricket is currently going through a phase of change. Some time ago our team was completely different, and now it is moving towards a new era. Patience and calmness are needed with the young players at this time. Gambhir’s approach is very calm, and the players are happy.”
